Cool maritime — mild damp winters, short summers
14 years growing Lithops from seed under glass. Focuses on the L. karasmontana and L. salicola complexes and on winter survival in low-light conditions.
About
I picked up my first Lithops from a market stall in 2011 and within a year had killed seven and rooted one. The one that survived — a no-name L. salicola — is still in the collection, now a tight cushion of eleven heads. The lesson it taught me is the lesson I try to bring to every profile I review: stop watering when in doubt.
I grow in an unheated alpine house on the edge of Bristol, where humidity is the enemy and ventilation matters more than light. My contributions to the directory lean toward winter-management notes for cool, damp climates — the conditions where the standard 'bright window' advice tends to fail.
